WEST HILLS RESIDENCE
KITCHEN & POWDER RENOVATION, FURNISHINGS
Wise Design was asked to assist with a renovation of a historic home nestled in the hills of West Portland, breathing new life into its classic bones while injecting a sophisticated, modern sensibility. The kitchen was entirely remodeled with new inset cabinetry by Julie Overmyer / Cutting Edge Custom Cabinets, painted in a soft hue, provided a seamless backdrop for the show-stopping white oak island with luxurious marble countertops. The natural stone by Alpha Stoneworks continued in the living room, where a striking marble surround framed the fireplace. Throughout the main living areas, including the dining room and living room, the design approach centered on a delicate balance between preservation and innovation. Original architectural details were cleaned up, but preserved, while contemporary lighting fixtures and carefully curated finishes introduced a fresh, updated aesthetic.
The den received a new sleek, modern wet bar while the powder room was updated with a floating white oak vanity, marble slab and textured plaster, the same material also used on the kitchen range hood. The lighting scheme played a crucial role in achieving the desired ambiance. Modern, minimalist fixtures were strategically placed to highlight architectural features and create a warm, inviting atmosphere.
