KITCHEN RENOVATION & FURNISHINGS
Wise Design was approached by a wonderful family in Lake Oswego to help update their home. We collaborated closely with our clients to elevate their space, from the final touches of a kitchen remodel to a complete furnishing design plan throughout the main living areas and primary suite.
Our client’s beautiful home was custom built in the 1970s featuring a Tudor-esque facade, a vaulted living room with T&G ceilings, fir floors, a stone fireplace and a soaring gothic style window. Some updates had previously been made and our clients were ready to complete the remaining spaces.
In the entry we freshened up the staircase. The lower railing now features a modern design with an oak railing and simple round iron balusters, while the upper portion retains its funky 70s aesthetic. A wool rug and stair runner soften the space, while a beautiful globe light fixture provides a focal point upon entry.
The elongated living room was strategically divided into two zones. Knowing this room would be a haven for our clients, we wanted to create a versatile space plan for use throughout the day. Centered around the stone fireplace, a welcoming conversation spot was created with two luxurious custom brown velvet sofas from Perch Furniture and a sizable oak coffee table, perfect for relaxation and fireside gatherings. Green poufs add a touch of whimsy and offer additional seating for book club nights. On the east wall, dual burl console credenzas provide substantial storage and serve as a foundation for a thoughtfully curated gallery wall.
We created a secondary seating area near the window for both work and family activities. We paired a large channel tufted banquette with a fluted oak dining table and two comfortable cider-colored velvet swivel chairs, perfect for family game night, or a casual spot to work from home. Above, a striking Bocci pendant light with vibrant blown glass spheres illuminates the gothic window, making a bold statement visible from the home's exterior. A substantial art piece anchors this area, while an expansive mirror reflects the beautiful pendant. A lush 10-foot rubber tree from Arium Botanicals brings life and vibrancy to the space.
In the back of the house, the kitchen opens up to a cozy family and dining room. Our clients had a beautiful existing wool rug for the dining room but the space was missing furnishings and accessories. Keeping intimate family dinners in mind, we added a new dark wood oval table, slim oak and caned dining chairs and a simple, yet striking chandelier from Worley's. Linen drapery from The Shade Store as well as vibrant custom art pieces by Thérèse Murzda soften and personalize this space.
The existing brick fireplace in the family room received an overgrouted treatment, softening its lines while retaining its textural appeal. Built-in cabinetry alongside the fireplace was painted a rich navy and updated with sophisticated brass hardware. The kitchen also received new brass hardware as well as paint, tile, plaster and quartz countertops. Stylish sconces above new open shelves were added to complement our client’s existing island pendant lights. Lastly, we added soft and sculptural leather counter stools, creating a comfortable spot for casual hangs.
In the upstairs primary bedroom, we helped finalize finishes and fixtures such as paint, plaster and lighting as well as implemented a completely new furnishing plan. The room featured an outdated arched brick fireplace. Our clients initially planned on removing it, but we convinced them to modernize it with plaster giving it a beautiful fresh look. We installed a comfortable upholstered king bed, flanked by two fluted wood nightstands and oversized table lamps. We added a playful black and white checkered rug to help ground the space and add pattern. A black and caned arched cabinet echoes the fireplace's design and provides storage and display. We nestled a cozy green beside the fireplace, which offers a relaxing spot to read a book and enjoy the forested view. New drapery from The Shade Store adds texture and helps soften the harsh western light.
We are delighted that our clients are now fully enjoying their beautifully revitalized home. We thoroughly enjoyed working with them throughout this project and it was an honor to help translate their design needs into beautifully realized and livable spaces.
