This project included a redesign of the client's dining room and her daughter's bedroom, in a beautifully renovated colonial home near Grant's Park in Portland. Our client felt the dining room was a space lacking warmth and interest. The concept for the design was to create an inviting and functional space, while remaining cohesive to the aesthetic of the house as a whole. To add drama, the ceiling coffers were accentuated with a shimmery metallic gold. A large, airy, wrought iron chandelier casts a shimmering light against the gold ceiling. The walls were painted a subtle blue to complement the ceiling. A beautiful navy kilim rug adds a bold graphic element which grounds the room. The client's preferred "eclectic aesthetic" was achieved by using both contemporary and antique elements, and incorporating existing sentimental pieces. Two antiqued Louis XIV chairs upholstered in a metallic steel velvet, coupled with an existing antique table and wicker padded chairs achieve an elegant mismatched look. 

 

Our approach for the bedroom was to keep the aesthetic youthful, but add some sophistication. The client requested that the paint stay the same, so we developed a striking, yet playful palette around the wall color.  To add elegance, we replaced her existing fixture with the chandelier from the dining room, (a family heirloom). Using a circular rug and some seating, we created a small reading/conversation area in the center of the room.  The room lacked storage and a space for doing homework. We worked with Jason Crawley Woodworks and carefully designed a built-in to maximize storage and workspace, without overwhelming the space. To create a cohesive look, we matched the existing molding and styled the cabinets after the rennovated kitchen. A large pin up board sits above the desk to display pictures, notes and momentos.
